About Us

Open Door Nursery takes great pride in nurturing young children within our community for 50 years. Founded in 1971, the school has seen thousands of students increase self-esteem, expand intellectually and develop life-long social skills. Our staff strives to provide the opportunity for our students to interact with other children in a setting conducive to the development of wholesome social relationships, and to aid their physical, emotional, intellectual, and Christian spiritual development.

Beliefs that Guide our Philosophy

  • Children need to feel safe and supported in their learning by caring and nurturing adults. They need to develop feelings of trust and security to develop confidence before they are truly free to explore, create and discover.

  • Children need to develop social skills to build positive relationships with others, including interacting with their peers and adults, making friends and respecting the rights and feelings of others.

  • Children need to talk, as well as listen, to make sense of their world. We should provide them with opportunities to ask questions, make decisions, engage in conversations, solve problems and resolve conflicts.

  • Activities should meet the developmental needs of young children (emotional, social, physical and cognitive) to help them grow toward their optimal potential.

  • Spontaneous imaginative play facilitates children’s intellectual development. This spontaneous learning process allows children to freely explore and discover their expanding world.

  • Good stories provide direction and incentives to invite children to play, read, create, and ponder. They can be used to facilitate learning in all areas of the classroom.
